For travel instructions from the train station, see below.
International visitors: Manchester Airport has daily flights to most major international destinations. The airport is approximately 75 minutes by train from Lancaster (visitors are advised to check timetables in advance if travelling on a Sunday or particularly early or late in the day – http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/). Taxis from Lancaster train station to the University campus cost around £7; alternatively the X1 bus runs from the station to the campus every 20 minutes Mon-Sat daytimes and hourly Sundays and evenings. There are also buses every few minutes from the town centre – take the X1, 2, 2A, 3 or 4 from the bus station (where there is an additional taxi rank) or Common Garden Street (behind the covered market). Lancaster is 20 minutes by train from Kendal, and 40 minutes from Windermere, both of which are pleasant day-trips. The 555/556 bus travels hourly from Lancaster to Keswick via Ambleside, Rydal and Grasmere among other destinations (timetables can be found at http://www.stagecoachbus.com/northwest/index.html). The best way of exploring the Lake District is, however, by car (or on foot!), as public transport tends to only serve the main tourist hubs.

Manchester Piccadilly is just over an hour by train; Liverpool Lime Street about an hour and forty minutes. Trains are frequent throughout the day, although the last train is at approximately 9pm.
Accommodation:
Ensuite accommodation will be provided on campus. However, visitors who prefer the comforts of a 4-star hotel can book at the Lancaster House Hotel, adjacent to the campus, which boasts a restaurant, pool, gym and spa.
